“It’s getting excited… The development of the Europeana Connection Kit is imminent. The functional prototype will contain open-source tools to enable local Collections and CMS to part-automate submission of content into Europeana.”
The objective of the third Work Package is to design, build, deploy and integrate a functional prototype of the Europeana Connection Kit and the related management interfaces.
In several iteration steps the prototype Europeana Connection Kit will be developed by the Best Practice Network as a core task of Europeana Inside. It will benefit from the support and expertise of Europe’s leading Collections Management software providers. First the technical design and build will be carried out in collaboration with the technical team at the Europeana Foundation to ensure seamless interoperability with the Europeana content ingestion workflow. In a second step the prototyping of Europeana Connection Kit will be continued by adding further functionality identified through a re-priorisation of the product backlog. This release will be used to continue the pilot content implementation (Work Package 4) and will also be promoted to the developer community for critical review and evaluation. In a third step a set of open-source management tools and interfaces will be provided to support Collections Management System Suppliers in integrating Europeana Connection Kit into their software products.
The prototype itself will be delivered as a package of open-source tools, interfaces and API (application programming interface) which collectively enable local Collections and Content Management Systems to part-automate the submission of content into Europeana.
The prototype will satisfy the requirements set down in Work Package 2 in the Technical Specifications. The prototype management and other interfaces are developed to permit to granular access control and the application of licenses to exported content. In addition plug-in modules are developed which interface with a representative subset of new data sources provided by Work Package 4. Finally it will demonstrate the end to end data flow of content from these data sources into Europeana.
Work Package lead is Knowledge Integration Ltd (K-INT), UK.
